โœˆ๏ธ Getting here by air

There are three airports that serve the Kruger area. Skukuza is the most dramatic โ€” your transfer drives you through the Kruger National Park itself.

Skukuza Airport (SZK)
26 km ยท ~30 min transfer through Kruger

The closest airport and the most memorable arrival โ€” your transfer from Skukuza passes through the Kruger National Park, so your safari begins the moment you land. Served by Federal Air and Airlink from Johannesburg OR Tambo.

Transfer: R1,550 (shuttle) ยท R2,325 (with luggage trailer)
Kruger Mpumalanga International (KMIA)
Nelspruit ยท ~1 hour drive

The larger regional airport near Nelspruit, with more frequent connections from Johannesburg and Cape Town. A good option if Skukuza flights don't suit your schedule. Car hire available at the airport.

Transfer rates available on request
OR Tambo International (JNB)
Johannesburg ยท ~5 hour drive

South Africa's main international hub. Most guests flying from the UK or Europe arrive here first, then fly onward to Skukuza or KMIA, or hire a car for the scenic 5-hour drive through Mpumalanga.

Transfer rates available on request
๐Ÿš• Transfer tip: We can arrange transfers from all three airports โ€” just let us know when you book. Car hire is available at all airports and is recommended once at Elephant Point as the reserve does not have on-site chauffeur services.

๐Ÿš— Driving from Johannesburg / Pretoria

The drive takes approximately 5 hours and is well-signposted throughout. There are 3 toll gates on the N4 โ€” keep cash or a card handy. The Schoemanskloof Pass section is one of the most beautiful drives in South Africa.

2
Pass through 3 toll gates: Diamond Hill (between PTA and Witbank) ยท Middleburg (after Witbank) ยท Machadodorp (after Machadodorp)

4
Follow signs for N4 via Schoemanskloof / R36 Lydenburg โ€” keep left and continue through the spectacular Schoemanskloof Pass towards Nelspruit

6
At the first traffic light entering White River (Toyota dealership on the corner), turn left

๐Ÿ  On arrival at Elephant Point

Here's what to expect when you arrive at the reserve:

๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ Security gate

You will enter Elephant Point via the R536. As you pass through the security barrier, the main reception will be on your left. Give your name and advise you are staying at Nkova Sabie (Lodge 28/29/30).

๐ŸŒŸ Finding the villa

Follow the reserve road to Lodge 28/29/30 โ€” Nkova Sabie. We'll provide you with a detailed arrival map and any gate access codes you need in advance of your stay.

๐Ÿ“ฑ Before you arrive

Save the GPS coordinates and download your route offline before leaving โ€” mobile signal can be weak on the final stretch of the R536. WhatsApp works in most of the reserve.

๐Ÿ’ก Useful tips for the journey

  • Fill up with fuel in Hazyview โ€” there is no petrol station between Hazyview and the gate
  • Stock up on groceries in Hazyview (Spar or Checkers) or ask us to arrange pre-arrival shopping
  • Download Google Maps offline for the Hazyview to Paul Kruger Gate section before you travel
  • Allow extra time on the R536 โ€” warthogs, baboons and impala cross unexpectedly
  • The drive is stunning โ€” especially Schoemanskloof Pass. Build in time to stop and enjoy it
  • Toll gates accept cash and card. Budget approximately R150โ€“R200 from JHB
  • Speed cameras are present on the N4 โ€” observe the limits throughout
  • Arrive before dark if possible, especially if it's your first visit to the area
๐Ÿ›‘ Wildlife on the road: Once on the R536 towards Paul Kruger Gate you are in true bush country. Drive slowly, especially at dawn and dusk โ€” animals cross frequently and distances can be deceptive in fading light.
